From Seremban Expressway onto MRR2
Please note, that the UPNM campus is in the same area as the Royal
Military College (RMC) campus.
KM / Directions
From the Federal Highway, head in the direction of KL. Pass Mid
Valley Megamall on your left and keep left to head towards the
Seremban highway. You will pass the turning to Taman Danau Desa.
Take the next exit towards Sg. Besi and Seremban highway and keep
to the right – heading towards the Seremban highway. You
will now be on the Seremban Expressway (E2)
You will pass the Lebuhraya Putrajaya exit on your left –
keep on going straight. You will then pass the Pusat Peringatan
Nirwana building on your right.
0.0km As you pass the Esso station on your left,
trip odometer to 0.0km.
1.6km You pass the Furniture World / Dunia Perabut
shops on your right.
2.7km Exit left to Cheras (blue signboard) then
keep left at fork to E9 then immediately right at the next fork
to MRR2. You are now on the MRR2 heading towards Kuantan.
3.5km You will soon see a Shell station on your
right – keep to the left lane immediately and take the U-Turn
flyover.
4.7km As you come down the flyover u-turn, keep
left and turn left just after the Shell station exit, before the
blue Metro Centre car park. You should see a green signboard to
“UPNM”. Go straight on this road.
7.0km Road curves to the left. You will be passng
Sek. Kebangsaan Desa Tasik on your right.
7.6km At the T-junction traffic lights, turn
right onto Jalan 20/146. Follow this winding road. You will pass
through flats and many shops selling food on the left and right
of the road.
8.6km Turn left onto Jalan Juasa 6.
9.5km Just before mosque turn left into Kem Perdana
Sg. Besi main gate. Inform the guard that you are coming for the
Malakoff University Duathlon Series event at UPNM under the name
Mej. Kalam Pie. There should be UPNM students helping to take
down car numbers and number of people per vehicle for security
purposes.
9.8km At roundabout go straight.
10.5km Turn right at this roundabout. You should
be going on a slight uphill now.
11.3km You will be at the UPNM entrance. Go straight
through.
PARKING
11.6km Take a left turn and you should be able
to see a big building on your right with parking bays. This is
where you should park your vehicle. DO NOT PARK ALONG
THE RACE COURSE.

From MRR2 coming from Kuala Lumpur
Please note, that the UPNM campus is in the same area as the Royal

Cheras exit and Taman Taynton View you need to look our for the
Desa Tun Razak condo on your left. After which you will see the
Shell Station, where you will need to take a left turn into the
Bandar Tasik Selatan / Tanab Desa Tasik Sg. Besi area.
0.0km After turning left, trip your odometer
at the Shell station and go straight on this road.
2.3km Road curves to the left. You will be passng

PRE RACE FAQ
1. If I am currently working in the university / am a university
staff, which
category do I sign up under?
All who are not currently students of any university will need
to sign up under the OPEN category.
2. I have children and they are keen to take part in the
race, which
category do I sign them up under?
As we do not have a specific category for children, it is advisable
to sign your child(ren) under the OPEN category - we will allow
for a discounted entry fee totaling RM20 for children below 15
years. We do require the parents or guardians of these children
to take part with their children for safety's sake. Parents of
these children will be required to submit a letter agreeing for
them to take part.
3. Do I have to take part in all 3 races?
No, you can take part in all three, just 2 races, or
even just one race. However if you want to qualify for the University
Duathlete of the Year Challenge, you will be required to take
part and all three events.
RACE DAY FAQ
1. Are bicycles provided?
NO, bicycles are not provided, you will need to bring your own
bike and equipment (shoes, spare tubes, bike pump etc.). However,
should you be interested to take part in a team, and need help
with finding a team mate, you can always send us an email or click
here to send us an enquiry.
2. Is a cycling helmet compulsory?
YES, a cycling helmet is compulsory during the entire bike section
of the course, you may not mount your bike without your helmet
being secured properly. Upon arriving at the transition area after
completing the bike leg, you may only remove your helmet once
off the bike within the transition area.
3. Do I need to change shoes ie. from running to cycling
and back?
It would be advisable for you to use running shoes for the run
sections of the course and use cycling shoes for more efficiency
during cycling. Of course if you do not have cycling shoes,
then it is advisable for you to use your running shoes when cycling.
4. How much water, will water be supplied and how many
water stations?
You should carry sufficient water for yourself on the race. Yes,
there will be water stations on the course, 1 water station on
the run, and 1 water station on the bike; THE GENERAL RULE OF
THUMB IS TO DRINK EVERY 10mins and hydrate yourself well, prior
to the race.
5. Will the race continue if it rains?
It will be at the discretion of the Race Organiser depending on
the severity of the weather.
6. What happens if I get a flat tire?
Athletes are responsible for all of their own spares, tools and
whatever problems they can foresee. If assistance is rendered
by anybody from the organizing committee, marshals, athletes will
be automatically disqualified.
7. How do I get medical assistance?
Please inform our race marshals, who will see that you receive
medical assistance. Please be aware that medical assistance will
be rendered on the basis severity, as we want to provide as safe
a race as possible. There may be instances where immediate medical
attention may not be practical.
8. What if I pull out during the race?
If you pull out during the race, please head to the race secretariat
and inform the race organisers that you will not be continuing
the race. You will not have an official ranking time and be classified
as Did Not Finish (DNF) placing.
9. Am I allowed to draft or pace another competitor?
No, pacing and drafting is strictly not allowed. Please see rule
on drafting and pacing.
10. When I go for the run, where do I leave my bike?
At the designated bike transition area, please only use the designated
number bay issued, athletes found utilizing undesignated bays,
may be penalized with a stop and start again time penalty or disqualified
(DQ’ed).
11. What if I get lost on the race course?
Please try to retrace steps back to last indicator of signage,
course will be marked with directional boards and marshals at
major intersections, Please follow required instructions, We would
advise all athletes to be familiar with the course prior to the
race date. Any changes will be made known at the soonest possible
date via email and posted on the website, please check back frequently
for updates.
12. Will the roads be closed to traffic?
Not completely, there will still be public traffic, but all major
intersections will be marshaled and policed to ease and administrate
traffic control, with a view to have a safe and conducive race/event.
MALAKOFF UNIVERSITY
DUATHLON SERIES
GENERAL RULES & REGULATIONS
Anyone may enter the Malakoff University Duathlon Series.
The following basic entry requirements apply:
1. 18 years and above (persons above the age of 16 may enter with
signed parental and/or legal guardian consent on a case to case
basis)
2. Able bodied and found to be healthy. (We recommend that you
inform your general practitioner of your new hobby)
The competition will be implemented according to the following:
CATEGORIES
1. University Category (male and female) –
University, College students (IPTA & IPTS)
two categories, male and female - 17 years and above. No age categories.
Only University and College students with valid student cards
are allowed entry into this category.
2. Open Category (male & female) –
all other participants who are not University or College students
Open to all participants of all ages and nationalities. No age
categories.
Participants below the age of 17 are required to have written
consent from their parents or guardians.
Participants below the age of 15 are required to have a parent
or guardian racing alongside them.
3. Team Relay Category (Mixed and Mens)
No age classification (18 years and above)
Men’s relay teams must comprise of only men. Mixed teams
must comprise of at least one member of the opposite sex. All
women relay teams will have to compete in the mixed relay category.
4. Media Category
Open to all participants of all ages and nationalities. No age
categories (18 years and above)
Only participants from the media (television, radio or newspapers)
with valid media identification are allowed to take part in this
category.
Event organizer reserves the right to refuse entry to any competitor
found to be acting or conducting themselves in an un-sportsmanlike
manner.Powerbar University
Duathlete of the year Award
All Malaysian participants competing in the University Category
of all 3 legs of the Malakoff University Duathlon Series are eligible/entitled
for the above award.
Points are awarded at the end of each leg of the Malakoff University
Duathlon Series according to the following:

These points accumulate towards an award to announce the “Powerbar
University Duathlete of the year” in the University Men
and University Women’s category.
Participants competing for the “Powerbar University Duathlete
of the year” award MUST start at all 3 legs of the Malakoff
University Duathlon Series.
Points accumulated by participants who do not start at any of
the 3 legs of the Malakoff University Duathlon Series will be
deemed as null and void.
Points tabulated will be based on points gained from each leg
of the Malakoff University Duathlon Series. The competitor with
the highest accumulated points in the University Men’s and
University Women’s category at the end of the 3 legs will
be awarded the Powerbar University Duathlete of 2008 trophy -
Men’s and Women’s respectively.
In the event of a draw, results of the last/final leg will be
used as the tie-breaker towards the final decision.
Other RULES and REGULATIONS
A. Official Finisher
All finishing participants will get a “Certificate of Participation”
Placing medals will only go to the Top 5 athletes in the University
(Men’s & Women’s), Open (Men’s and Women’s)
and Top 3 Teams in the Team Relay (Men’s & Mixed) and
Media categories, provided they finish within the stipulated cut
off time.
B. TRANSITION AREA
All changeover of equipment must be done within the stipulated
transition area
Run 1- Transition 1 (T1) – Bike – Transition 2 (T2)
- Run 2 (T1 and T2 are in the same area)
All participants must have their helmet buckles fastened and helmets
secured on the top of their heads, from the time they remove their
bicycle from the rack, at the start of the bicycle leg until after
they have finished and placed their bicycle on the rack at the
end of the bicycle leg.
Participants may only use their designated bike bays / racks.
Please adhere to all instructions, by race marshals pertaining
to the transition area.
Participants must not adjust, obstruct, interfere or assist with
another competitor’s equipment in the transition area.
You may run or walk within the transition area; we strongly recommend
that you move swiftly without obstructing or endangering yourself
or other participants, within the transition area.
Cycling is STRICTLY PROHIBITED within the transition area.
Nudity or indecent exposure is STRICTLY PROHIBITED.
Non-participants will NOT be allowed into the transition area,
once the race begins.
You may only claim your bike and equipment from the transition
area by producing your race bib number.
The transition area will only OPEN approximately, 1 hour prior
to the race start time.
The transition area will be CLOSED approximately 30 minutes after
the official cut of time.
C. RUN
Participants may run or walk during the required run legs.
Participants may not crawl. (Participants will be deemed to be
injured and extracted from the racecourse)
Participants are not allowed to run with a bare torso.
Participants must wear their race numbers both on the front and
back of their t-shirts or tops during running.
Support vehicles or pacers are strictly prohibited. (Please see
ruling on drafting).
Glass containers, headsets, headphones are strictly prohibited.
The responsibility of keeping on the course rests with the competitor.
Any competitor who appears to present a danger to themselves or
others may be removed from the competition.
D. BIKE
A competitor is not allowed to block others.
A competitor is not allowed to make forward progress without a
bicycle.
A competitor may run or walk with their bike.
A competitor must obey all traffic laws (governed by the Road
Transport Ministry) unless otherwise directed by an official.
A bare torso will not be permitted while cycling.
Participants must ensure that their race numbers are clearly visible
both on the front and lower back of their T-shirts or tops during
cycling.
Cycling helmets are compulsory during the entire bike course.
These must be in accordance with updated UCI helmet requirements
with CE or ANSI or SNELL certification.
Any participants seen riding without a helmet will be disqualified.
Note : Some time trial or aero helmets do not meet these requirements.
Please see race secretariat for further clarification. Race Director’s
decision is final.
Headphones, headsets and glass containers are strictly prohibited.
Individual support vehicle and support crew is/are strictly prohibited.
Aero bars and clip-ons may be used - all ends must be plugged.
No wheel may contain mechanisms, which are capable of accelerating
it.
E. GENERAL DISQUALIFICATION
Disqualification or a “DQ” is a penalty appropriate
for a violation
A disqualification will be signaled in the following manners
a) Sounding of a whistle or horn or waving a flag
b) Showing of a red card.
c) Calling of the participants name and yelling STOP in English.
d) The alphabets “DQ” will be initialed on the competitor’s
number and a red cross will be marked.
e) This infringement will be subsequently reported back to race
secretariat for the appropriate action to be taken. Committees’
decision is final in determining removal / disqualification.
E.1. Reasons for disqualification
A competitor may be immediately disqualified without warning for
the following
• Consumption of alcohol, or other drugs 24 hours before
the race.
• Consumption of performance enhancing stimulants.
• Refusing to follow rules and/ or instructions of race
officials
• Failing to follow the prescribed course.
• Using abusive language or behavior untoward / unbecoming
towards any official, competitor or unsportsmanlike behaviour.
• Blocking, charging, obstructing, or interfering with the
forward progress of another competitor.
• Unfair contact. The fact that contact occurs between participants
does not constitute a violation. When several participants are
moving in a limited area, contact may occur. This incidental contact
between participants in equally favorable positions is not a violation.
• Accepting assistance or seen to be accepting assistance
either purpose fully or by default from any person or situation
that arises other than a race official not limited to accepting
assistance from a race official which constitutes an unfair advantage.
• Refusing to follow the instructions of a race official.
• Departing the course for unforeseen reasons or reasons
of safety but failing to re-enter at the point of departure.
• Leaving equipment or discarding personal articles on the
course. Tires, plastic bottles, and discarded items must be placed
safely off the course.
• Wearing items deemed a hazard to self or others i.e. :
a hard cast, obtrusive jewelry, headsets, headphones
• Using unauthorized equipment to provide any advantage
or which will be dangerous to others.
• Violating traffic regulations
E.2. Procedure after Disqualification
A competitor may finish the race after an official calls for a
penalty or disqualification, but will subsequently have to check
with the race secretariat, for more information. A competitor
may appeal the decision in accordance with the provisions of this
booklet and Section L of the ITU rulebook.
Protests and complaints
Complaints or protests of being fouled by other participants or
notices of violation or protest against that notice HAVE to be
filed officially in writing with the organizing committee based
at the Race Secretariat within 30 minutes of your completion of
the event, accompanied with a RM150 non returnable deposit.
*If your protest is successful the deposit will be returned.
Verbal complaints, protests or any of the above will NOT be entertained.
The organizing committee reserves the right to apply due discretion
on a case-to-case basis.
The Race Directors and organizing committee’s decision is
final.
For more detailed explanation and expansion of rules and regulations,
rulebooks from governing bodies UCI, IAAF and ITU will be used
as a basis.
