UPNM was the big winner of series, taking home not just the two Individual Trophies for the Powerbar University Duathlete 2011, but also the Best University and Top University awards for Best performance and highest number of students participating respectively. Congratulations to all that took part - we hope to see you in more multi-sport races and also in the next duathlon. Thank you to everyone who supported the race, especially the host Universities - Universiti Pertahanan Nasional Malaysia, Universiti Putra Malaysia and Universiti Malaya. ---------------------- RACE REPORT : MUDS 2 @ Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM)
What a close race it turned out to be with Chan Jun Shen and Ong Wei Xiang pushing hard in the Men's University race in the beautiful race course of Universiti Putra Malaysia. The 3km run, 13km bike and final 3km run, though offering a hilly bike course, saw participants averaging similar times (some faster) than 2010. The slightly cloudy weather was welcomed by all the participants. In the Men's University category - Chan Jun Shen came in just seconds before Ong Wei Xiang. Nevertheless Ong Wei Xiang still stand in 1st place in terms of points accumulated over the 2 races for the Powerbar University Duathlete of the Year title (that was won by Chan last year). The final leg of MUDS will definitely be important for the two lads as they battle for top spot and maximum points. In the Women's University category, Nuryasikin Masri came in first once again with the time of 56 minutes and 42 seconds, about 3 minutes ahead of the rest of the pack. In the Open category, David John Spence came in first in the Men's Open, while Chung Hsing Ling came in first in the Women's Open. For RESULTS, click here. The students at UPNM gave the participants a warm welcome - cheering the participants on during the race and also displaying their UPNM war dance just before the prize giving ceremony. In the Men's University category, the two favourites to win - Chan Jun Shen (UPNM) and Ong Wei Xiang (UTM) were gunning at the start of the race. Ong Wei Xiang came in first in the time of 49 minutes and 8 seconds, just a minute ahead of Chan who came in third. Chan is currently coming out of an injury, so hopefully will recover soon to give Ong a chase in the upcoming two MUDS races. In the Women's University category, Nuryasikin Masri from UPNM came in first in the time of 1 hour, 9 minutes and 25 seconds far ahead of second placed Noor Fitrah who also hails from UPNM. In the Open category, as Mohd. Sabki Ariffin who celebrated his birthday on that day, had a great birthday present coming in 3rd in the Men's Open category. Definitely an inspiration to all, we hope to see Sabki at the next two MUDS races. For RESULTS, please click here.
